Welcome to the American Occupational Therapy Association's Checking the Pulse blog. Written by Stephanie Yamkovenko, AOTA's digital editor.
Here you will find news about occupational therapy, current health news, and more. I regularly blog about apps that clinicians can use in practice, autism issues, managing chronic conditions, wounded warriors, and more.
AOTA members receive the biweekly OT Practice Pulse e-newsletter where we share resources and news from AOTA and other sources that directly affect occupational therapy practice—curated just for members! Here on the Checking the Pulse blog, I will share even more relevant and interesting news, videos, blogs, and more.
I read hundreds of articles about health, wellness, and policy every week to find the most engaging and enlightening content for you. Blog readers can stay in the know, go beyond the news, and find out how the latest health news affect occupational therapy.

If your idea of a perfect long weekend is sitting on the sofa reading an evidence-based journal article, then I have some great news for you! (I know not everyone will think that’s a legitimate way to spend their Labor Day, but even for everyone else this is still great news).
One of the best parts of being a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association is that you get access to our research journal, the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT), which publishes research articles about OT that can (and should!) inform your practice.
In an effort to boost our international efforts and foster more global partnerships, AOTA partnered with two international OT associations to provide you with free access to their journals!
With your AOTA log in, you can now view the British Journal of Occupational Therapy and the Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy.
How cool is that?
Ready to start reading some research? Go to AOTA.org and log in. Click on the AJOT link and click on the “view AJOT link online now.” That will take you to a page that will have links to AJOT, BJOT, and CJOT. (You could also just click here).
By the way, for all of you who participate in the British association’s weekly twitter chats (#Occhat or #OTalk), let your British friends know that they now have access to your journal (AJOT) as well. And of course you should tell your Canadian friends too.
Not yet an AOTA member? Then you're missing out on a lot of research (as well as many more great member benefits). Learn more about joining AOTA here.
Happy Labor Day everyone!
