National School Backpack Awareness Day 2011

  • It's time to start to planning your 2011 Backpack Awareness Day initiative for September 21, 2011. If anyone needs a skit to use for grades K-8, please contact me at kjacobs@bu.edu

Please share what you are planning to do with us on this forum.

  • Hi,

I'm wondering if the "Media Kit" is still available on the AOTA website. I can't find it. I remember in years past it gave sample press releases and tips for interacting with the media. Anyone know if it is still available?

  • Kristen, the media kit is on the AOTA website. Please put in backpack in the search on the site and you should be able to find it that way. Please post what you are doing as an event. All my best, Karen

  • Hi Karen,

I am a first year MOT student at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. Some of my classmates and I are in charge of planning a few events around our community for backpack awareness. We have several ideas that will target various populations. I am definitely interested in receiving skit ideas for elementary school ages. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

  • Our OT student club will be visiting a local elementary school to give a presentation on Backpack Awareness. I will email you for details on the skit-- I think that is an excellent method of presentation for that audience and I remember your students talking about it at the World OT Day presentation last year!

  • Julie,

We are leaving NYC now to drive to Boston. I will email you the skit tomorrow.

    Cheers,
    Karen

  • Safe travels Karen!!

  • Karen,

I am visiting an elementary school for a Backpack Awareness Presentation. If you could e-mail me the skit that would be great!!! My e-mail is molsha2@students.towson.edu

    Thank you,

    Melanie

  • Melanie and others,

We are one week from National School Backpack Awareness Day. I am sure you must all be excited about your events! Please share what you are doing on this discussion board.

We will have three events. One at St. Mary's School (K-8). My occupational therapy students from Boston University will be providing a skit and then a weigh-in for 200 students. Next we go to a Boston Public School and repeat the activities. Finally, our Rotaract Club will have a weigh-in on campus for the university students.

If anyone would like our skit, please e-mail me at kjacobs@bu.edu

    Please post your activities.
