OTA questions - what can I do before starting the program?

  • Hi everyone!

I am looking into becoming an occupational therapy assistant, focusing on pediatrics. I have a little experience, as my husband was injured in Afghanistan and lost use of his right arm - a little of which he has regained through rigorous occupational therapy.

I will be applying to a program within the year and was wondering what I can do to learn more/become prepared. I am planning on volunteering/shadowing but was curious if there is anything else that would help me - can anyone recommend books, websites, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Melissa, have you taken a look at the information and resources on our website http://www.aota.org/en/Education-Careers/Considering-OT-Career.aspx particularly the live chats?
