In a deployed environment servicemembers are subject to risks such as post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. Cases vary in severity but some can be treated in theater allowing servicemembers to return to duty. The Occupational Therapy Team is just one of the specialized groups that work together to help the wounded warriors.

OTA Class Service Learning

The pictures in this video are from our community service projects that we did during our last term of classroom work for the occupational therapy assistant program at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Our class split up into seven groups and we found places in our community that needed our services. Then we wrote a report about how our community service project relates to occupational therapy and educated the people at our community service project facilities about what occupational therapy is. We raised money, got donations, and did physical work to meet the needs of the facilities as you will see in the video.

Health and Wellness Event

The Cincinnati State Community College occupational therapy assistant program students hosted a Health and Wellness Expo at Colonial Heights & Gardens Retirement Community from 10:30am-11:30am on 1/31/11. This was a free service we provided for the residents of the retirement community to share information specifically geared toward the needs of seniors regarding safety, building healthy habits, and increasing participation in meaningful activity. It is our goal to gain local media coverage for our event to show people in the Cincinnati area what occupational therapy is and more specifically to raise awareness of the role of occupational therapy in the health and wellness arena.
