Hello,

Those of you that work in the NICU, could you please let me know what you are using for a developmental assessment?  Infants include those at 32 weeks PCA as well as infants that are drug exposed.

Thank you!

Hello!!!

I just ran across your post and thought I would try to connect with you. I have about 18 years experience in the NICU and came up with my own NICU Developmental Assessment. It took lots of years of experience and knowledge to figure out what would be the most beneficial information for both myself for treatment purposes and for the medical staff FYI. Did you settle on one that you like?

Also...I am in need of some help!! Do you know what the CPT codes are that you use in your NICU for reimbursement of your services? We have not charged for services but my director wants to start!! I would love some feedback on what other hospital are using.

Thanks a million........

Hello,

It is great to hear from a fellow NICU OT.  Sometimes I feel quite alone in this field.  I’ve been in the NICU for about 15 years now.  It has grown to a 23 bed unit and I am there as needed.  My job is also as dept director and I cover where needed in acute care and in rehab…so, sometimes it is hard to develop what I’d like to do in the NICU.

As far as billing.  I have always billed for an OT eval or if I am seeing an infant consecutively it may be ADL therapy due to working on nipple feeding.

May I ask what you are using for your eval?  I was looking into the NNNs because we, as I’m sure you are, having an influx of drug exposed babies.  I am also assessing babies before 34 weeks because of discharges being earlier then before.

How big is your unit and to what extent is your involvement?

Please let me know if you have any other questions from me.

Thank you and have a great day.

How many therapists on the board to we have who are working or interested in working in the NICU? Maybe we could start an offshoot board if there is enough interest
