I notice that forum entries and blogs on OT Connections are available to the internet public before signing in. While some general information can and should be available to the public, I don't feel comfortable with blogs and forums.  Is this a website for OT's or the world??

So, I will not longer use OT Connections until this is corrected. Back to the AOTA list-serve! (until Dec 15 - what then???)

Linda, there are some general forums and blogs that are open to non-members, but those forums related to the Special Interest Sections, like SI, EI, Admin, etc. are not available until you log in as a member of AOTA.  At least that’s what happened to me when I just tried it.

I did notice that the Research Forum is open to the public and am interested in the reasoning behind that decision.

Linda,

I'm not sure if you need to specifically "tag" your posts as EI-School, SI, Phys Dys, etc. so it goes to the specific member only Forums? For example, I didn't receive your post and the responses to your topic about AOTA membership. I also didn't see your post "tagged" when I visited this site. Maybe you posted it under the Forums that I did not subscribe to?

Hi Linda,
The SIS ListServs which are now known as SIS Forums are available only to AOTA members. We are in the transition period through Dec 15th. On that day the old system will go into read mode only. Please visit the FAQhttp://otconnections.aota.org/faq.aspx  area for details on the move. The public forums, blogs, galleries are available to registered users (not necessarily AOTA members).

Hi Diane,
We worked with the SISC on what is listed as SIS and public forums. The Research forum is not an "SIS" forum, it was on the old listserv along with others because it was the only place we had available. otconnections allows us now to have true SIS forums and public ones.

Hi Rudy,
The Tag feature is used for your posts to be categorized and easily found. Think of them as "keywords" you would want to use to describe your post and for others to find them. Tags do not control where a post gets published to. For you to receive a post via email you have to be subscribed to it. Please see the instructions on the FAQ on how to update your email subscription.

Thanks!

Linda,

Sorry for another post, this will be my last about this, it looks like this post and the Membership Issues post that you initiated went straight to the Public Forum which is available for everyone else to see. The thing is the posts in the Public Forum cannot be edited/deleted (posts in SIS member only Forums can be edited.) If you want, you can request the site administrator to delete those for you and start over with those important member-only topics at the SIS Forums. I know it's getting complicated navigating/managing this site.

Sam -

When creating a new post, can the forums have the words (public) or(members) beside them  - I was looking for category and I didn't see that there were two separate lists  - a visual would help like the words ()or separate boxing or even click on public / member only first and then choose the category  - especially during this transition!

Thanks

Linda

PS

What about the blogs?? Is there a way to make them public or member only?

Linda,

When creating a new post in the forums – You are given the List of all the Forums available in the drop down menu broken into “SIS Forums” (only available to AOTA members) and if you scroll down you will see the “Public Forums” (available to registered users). This is where you would pick which forum you want to post to.

Blogs are public by default. The purpose of a blog is to share your ideas with others online and initiate a discussion and comments so making it private defeats the purpose but you can make it private if you wish by going to the “Advance Options” Tab when writing a new post and selecting “No” under Display post. This gives you the control to make your blog postings private and not appear under the blogs area.

Thanks,
