Hello everyone--
I am working on an article for OT Practice on study tips for the NBCOT exam. Please share your ideas here, and I will include what I can.
Thanks!
Colleen M. McDonald, OTR/L
I wrote an article about this on my blog two years ago. Now that NBCOT has the new test format, I've seen a tremendous increase in activity with people complaining that they have failed the test 1,2, and 3 times. Not sure if this will be helpful for you or not!

Hi Natan--
Thanks for the info. It will be interesting to see what the pass/failure rate of the "new" exam is compared with the previous version. Obviously, there are much fewer ways to study for the simulation questions than the others; perhaps that will change in time.
I enjoyed reading your blog. The fourth study guide you referenced-- the one that has study material as well as practice tests-- was one I had not discovered. It would be great if you would write up a review on amazon.com, as that is one resource for finding study guides, and it's always helpful to have opinions from readers/users.
You did not mention the on-line exams, available through the NBCOT website. I would recommend them but did find them more difficult than the actual exam.
Best wishes,
Colleen
Colleen,
I recently graduated with my MOT and I'm looking for advice for studying for the new version of the NBCOT Exam. Any tips from those that have successfully completely the exam would be extremely helpful. What study guides were helpful? How much time did you take to prepare for the exam? Did you complete your article for OT Practice, if so, what issue was it in?
Thank you!
Melissa
Hi Melissa--
Yes, I did get the article published, in Nov. It was in the edition that, I believe, was the first one to be published on line. Let me know if you can't find it, and I can e-mail you a copy if you give me your address.
I did take the earlier version of the test, so I hope those who have passed current, revised version will offer their study tips for that part of the test.
It is hard to estimate time preparing; I had been out of school, and out of the profession, for quite awhile, so I imagine those just coming out of school would spend less time.
I hope my article will be helpful to you. Good luck!!
