Re: Advice for a career change to OT

Hi! Thank you all for your replies, it really means a lot. It is so great getting this kind of support. I have another question - lets say I shadow different people and decide OT is definitely right for me and take the Pre Reqs. I probably wouldn't be able to go to Grad. school until next year...

OTA Education

Any response would be greatly appreciated. I'm an average student (B and C type). How hard is the OTA curriculum? When I went to school, I often would put in 2-4 hours a day studying. I'm not afraid of working, but if the education is to hard, then I will look towards another field which is suitable...

Hello there! I'm a high school senior, applying to universities now and I love OT, I love the field, and I'm trying to find programs where I can do hands on work, or at least join a club/have a teacher willing to let me work with people during the beginning of my college experience. Of course...

DJ, Wow! I am so proud of you!! I really like to become an OT. I love helping people. I think the stress of my current work is also a motivation for me to go back to school to do something that I love. I think a stressful job is ok as long as I like what I do. My immediate plan is to study for the...

I am currently a junior attending Penn State. I may not be able to attend grad school for OT for at least three years after I graduate in May 2013. Is that a big problem? Will I have more trouble getting accepted into programs if I am not coming fresh out of senior year? I was thinking I could do internships...

I'm a federal employee in a totally unrelated field but am looking to switch jobs. I'd like something more portable (i.e., available jobs in many places I'd like to live) but something that I could do as a federal employee, too. I never considered being an OT before, but it really appeals...

You most certainly can volunteer or observe "a day in the life" of an OT. Many applicants to OT/OTA programs are required to do observation hours to include with their applications, so most facilities are used to this request. As OT students, however, we are required to complete Level I and...
