Conclave: A test drive for your career

Exactly two years ago I purchased my Mini Cooper all by myself. Sure, it wasn’t my first car, but it was the first car that I bought as an adult. The process of car buying is equally exciting and nauseating. If you’re not careful, you could wind up spending hours online searching through Web sites, forums, and blog posts to try to find what car is the best for you (and what you can afford).

The real fun begins when you’ve narrowed that list down to three or four options. For me, I had a few on my list—the VW Rabbit, the Mini Cooper, and the Volvo C30. Once I narrowed my list down, I went to the car dealership and took a test drive with each one. I have to be completely honest, the Mini Cooper was by far the best when it came to the test drive, especially because my Mini Motoring Adviser (they really call them that) showed me the way to a really curvy road with very little traffic. I obeyed all traffic laws, thank you very much (I really did, ask my husband, I’m a stickler for the rules).

I am glad I took those cars out for a test drive, because I was seriously leaning toward buying the Volvo before I drove the Mini. And sometimes in life, the thing we think we really want, ends up being second (or third) to something else that we had never tried before.

This year at Conclave, you get to test drive your career by choosing from six clinical sessions that range from low vision, to pediatrics, to mental health, and more. My suggestion to you is to take a lesson from my test driving experience, and sign up to attend a clinical session in an area of practice that maybe you don’t know if you’re interested in, because the Student Conclave is the perfect time to learn and to test drive.

So what clinical sessions have you signed up for? Have you registered for Conclave yet and taken advantage of the Early Bird Discount?
