Conclave: Next Rest Stop in 20 miles

Published 26 Aug 2009 6:53 PM

Growing up, my family took a vacation every summer and each year—no matter the distance of our destination—we drove. Sometimes that would mean a measly 6-hour drive, and other times it would mean driving clear across the country. My dad thought it was a waste of time to spend the night in a hotel mid-trip, so he would do everything in his power to get us to our destination in 1 day. If that meant waking up at 3 a.m. to get a head start on the drive, we did it. If that meant minimal stops along the route, you learned to “hold it.”

It’s funny because now, as an adult, I’ve found that I’ve completely adopted my father’s habits when it comes to road trips...well almost completely—an early start for me happens after sun rise. My rest stops are short and minimal, but no matter the length or frequency, there is something strangely pleasing about getting out of the car, stretching your tired limbs, and maybe picking up a snack or two.

This year at Conclave, while your two days will be jam-packed with sessions, programs, and presentations, we’ve also worked in some rest stops along the way. On Friday, November 20, after registration and checking in to your hotel room, take a rest stop and check out the exhibit space before (and after) the keynote presentation. Be sure to work your way through to meet a lot of job recruiters (and also CE and product exhibitors).

Throughout the day on Saturday there will be several networking breaks where you can meet up with other students, chat about the sessions you attended, meet new people, and make valuable contacts. The lunch on Saturday will be another opportunity for networking and resting. The exhibit space also will be open during the “rest stops.”

Finally, on Saturday night the ultimate rest stop for Conclave will be the AOTPAC night, “Students Think They Can Dance-a-thon.” Oh yes, you read that correctly. There will be dancing. There will be a contest. There will be a cash bar. Need I say more? Click here for more information.

Have you registered for Student Conclave yet?
