Conclave: One day you will have to get a real job
I remember the day I graduated college with my bachelor’s degree, my godfather shook my hand and said sternly, “you know, one day you will have to get a real job.” I smiled, told him that of course I knew that, but secretly was so happy that on my desk at home was my letter of acceptance to graduate school.
So last summer when the dean of my school handed me my Master’s degree, reality started to sink in. Before graduation day, I tried my hardest to take advantage of the career services offered at my university. But ultimately, the idea of sitting in a room with 20 or so students all with 20 different majors learning about writing cover letters and practicing interviews for all of our 20 different careers, just didn’t seem like a good way to practice for my job search.
If I had the opportunity back then to attend a session about job searches with students in my major taught by recruiters from my profession, I would have been there in a heartbeat!
And that is just what Student Conclave has for you. Not only will you be able to network with occupational therapy students who share the same goals, excitement, and passion for your profession, but you will also be meeting with the leaders of your profession and with career experts. You will have the opportunity to have your resume and cover letters reviewed and critiqued by actual job recruiters.
Imagine that, your resume critiqued by the person in charge of hiring. It couldn’t be more perfect in helping calm those nerves that come with knowing your graduation is just around the corner.
Are you nervous about the job search? Do you have a resume ready to be critiqued? Are you excited that you will have the opportunity to get a head start at Conclave?
