Somehow I managed to imbed the link to my e-portfolio incorrectly in my last post. Hopefully it's corrected now in the original post below. But here it is again: https://bu.digication.com/mirandamwilson

Thanks for reading, and don't forget to cast your votes for all of the ASD Steering Committee Positions, as well as the general AOTA positions! Voting will close on February 28th.

Here's a Link to my e-portfolio. It's still a work in progress, but it includes a lot of information on my background that I wanted to share! It will continue to be updated (especially the advocacy section!), but I wanted to share what I have so far.

I am very excited to announce my campaign for Communications and Advocacy Chairperson for the 2012 Association of Student Delegates Steering Committee!

My name is Miranda Wilson, and I am currently enrolled in Boston University's master of science in occupational therapy program. I am originally from Tuscaloosa, AL, and completed my undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina Asheville in Asheville, NC. Advocacy has been a primary interest of mine since I first began to consider the profession, and it is one that plays a huge role in my life as a student, and that will continue to do so once I am a practitioner.

At the end of this post, I have included my official position statement that can also be viewed as part of my bio on the official ballot page. This provides a general overview of my experiences and the perspective I would bring to the position.

Throughout the course of the campaign, I hope to hear what direction you as students would like to see me take in my capacity as Communications and Advocacy Chair. This is an elected position, because the Chairperson serves as representative of all Occupational Therapy students, so I want to know what is important to you! Advocacy for us takes two major forms: What do you want AOTA to know in order to benefit STUDENTS? And what do we want to focus on, as student and practicing members of AOTA, to affect change in the greater population?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Official Position Statement:

I have been extremely interested in politics and advocacy since early in high school, and have become progressively more involved ever since. My various leadership positions over the years have given me experience in organizing and coordinating many people’s ideas and translating them into action.  Many of those previous experiences have involved communications and marketing, and from them I have become skilled with a variety of media types. Between my undergraduate experience in Political Science and my experiences working with children with autism, I have developed a strong interest in translating the wants and needs of individuals into legislative action. My goals as Communications and Advocacy Chairperson would be to ensure that our voices as students have the impact they are entitled to, whether within AOTA itself, or in making a difference outside the organization.
