So, this is going to sound lazy and stupid, but as a younger member growing up online, I have to say I'm pretty annoyed with the fact that renewing my AOTA membership as a new practitioner requires actual real live paperwork and copy of my NBCOT certification which is firmly filed away, versus just filling out an online form. Considering I was a student last year, it seems to me pretty logical, without a copy of NBCOT certification, that now I am a new practitioner. I guess they are trying to prevent people signing up for it that aren't new, but if they were a student member last year, seems logical to me that the next step is new practitioner....ANd if they are an old practitioner and they sign up as a new practitioner, they're opening themselves up for an ethics issue! So couldn't AOTA let new practitioners renew without proof and just have some kind of "Please note: we periodically audit the membership and if more experienced practitioners are found to be taking advantage of the new practitioner rate, an ethics case will be initiated" or something?
I'm opening up myself for criticism here from older offline-oriented generations who will say stop being so lazy and fill out a form and dig out your files already....but I firmly believe that it needs to be as convenient as possible if you want people to join. If it weren't for AOTA conference coming up soon, I would probably not renew (or at least delay it) solely because it's inconvenient...even if that is a terrible reason since we need to be promoting AOTA no matter what, thick or thin, because they are awesome and necessary for our occupation to thrive....
So go AOTA, yay, rah rah rah, love you guys, but please make membership for new practitioners more convenient.....I guess I should examine the whole lifetime membership thing. Enlighten me if I am totally off-base.
On that note, I'm sitting on my laptop next to a boiling pot of pasta, ignoring the timer so I better go!!!
