Well, I just attended a very interesting local chamber of commerce meeting (are you a member of your local chambers? If not, it makes really good business sense!). They were talking about LLC, C-corp, S-corp and taxation and accounting. My head may explode but it brought up an interesting point. As a company, I must register to do business in each state I work in. As an OT, I have to follow the licensure laws to practice in each state. However, as an OT consultant who is not doing hands on treatement, only provided expert council or education, I don't have to register with the OT board in each state. That means that I have to register as a business.
Confused yet...
What it came down to is, you have to register as something, either a business or an OT in order to make money in a state. Registering a business is much cheaper and easier than getting an OT license.
What do you do?
